It’s Friday afternoon, another work week is in the books and you’ve stuck to your nutrition and exercise plan.

You ate breakfast every day, packed a healthy lunch and snacks and got to the gym four times. You even scheduled a Saturday bike ride with a few friends.

As you get settled in at home, a “driveway” happy hour has kicked off down the street at a neighbors. You’re feeling good and want a few laughs, so you pour yourself a drink, grab your chair and walk down the street.

The unwine-ding begins. Everyone is having a good time. Suzie breaks away and comes back with chips, salsa, fresh guacamole and a beautiful platter of cured meats, cheeses, and crackers.

Drinks keep flowing and the snacking begins. You’ve officially blown a tire and veered off your nutrition plan.

No big deal.

But, time flies and the happy hour is over. You’re feeling loosy goosy from the beverages and everything is sounding way better than the chicken thawed in the fridge.

The family is hungry and everyone agrees that ordering something sounds way better.

The decision process begins. Your choices are bountiful and within minutes you have a combination of salty, fatty, calorie loaded food being delivered directly to your front door.

Your 500 calorie chicken, veggie, rice dinner has been replaced with a 1,500+ caloric, fat bomb of a meal - Tire two has blown.

Saturday morning arrives and you have a great bike ride with your friends. You feel so go about it, that you tell yourself, you've “earned” brunch. A few mimosas, a plate of french toast and there goes tire three.

The voice in your head speaks again, saying, “screw it, I’ll get back on track Monday.”

Driveway happy hours and brunches are fun and can be part of a healthy lifestyle if you plan for them.

But, if you are serious about changing your body and health, you need to get better at stopping and fixing a blown tire instead of using it as an excuse to blow all four.
