OMG it’s Friday, the first week of the new year is gone, I’ve been to the gym once and I haven’t lost 10lbs yet.

Take a deep breath and RELAX.

The first week of the new year can be chaotic. There is no need to panic and get overwhelmed about your fitness and health goals.

Now, if you made very lofty resolutions, I’d recommend you look them over and make sure they are realistic.

 

Next, I would review your definition of “fit” and make sure your goals are aligned with “why” you want to improve your health and fitness in the first place.

If you have never taken the time to create a definition of fit, now is the perfect time.

 

Think about why you want to build strength, improve balance or lose weight.

What’s your purpose for wanting to live a healthier lifestyle?

Maybe it's keeping up with your kids or being a strong and active grandparent. Your “why” could be to maintain energy levels, immune health and strength into your 70’s and 80’s.

Make this year better than last. Dig deeper into your purpose for living a healthy, active life.

 

When coming up with your definition of fit, remember a few things:

What is considered “Fit” by me might be completely different from you.

Don’t fall into a trap that you need to train or look a certain way.

This is all about you, nobody else.

Fitness is just one part of your life.

Your definition will change over the course of your life.

 

Here is my definition of fit

My Why’s….

  • Be a role model to my children, so they can learn that eating well and exercise is a normal part of life, not a dreaded task to complete.
  • Possess the ability to apply strength, run quickly and be agile enough to handle myself in an unexpected situation.
  • Live a robust, independent life until I die.

 

Now it’s your turn.

A clear definition will help you create a plan. Don't make it too rigid. A good plan is always flexible.
