education: FITNESS COACH AND MEMBER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE

Born and raised in Western Montana, Brian grew up mountain biking in the summer and skiing in the winter. After high school, he joined the Navy, went to nuclear power school, and served as an electrician on the USS Nimitz in the Reactor Department. After 6 years of military life, he moved to Portland Oregon with his wife. Eventually, having enough of the Pacific Northwest’s weather, Brian left his IT job and moved to sunny Florida. Brian joined BTF as a member in July 2012, dedicated to lose extra pounds he packed on from lack of movement and and too many sweets. Brian lost 15 lbs. and found a passion for fitness. In December of 2012, Brian joined the BTF team as a fitness coach.

“I came to Dominic/Breakthrough Fitness six years ago as a client. I had just moved to Florida and had been working as a networking engineer for a small company in Seattle. I had what I like to call, an “engineer body” which is basically the physical condition caused by eating whatever happened to be nearby and easy to eat at my desk. I never really had a huge relationship with fitness. In high school I was more drawn to the math team than the football team. When I came to Dominic with the goal of “Becoming the God of Thunder” he knew he had a difficult task ahead of him.

Over the following 6 months, interesting things happened. I fell in love with Breakthrough Fitness, its clients, and fitness in general. I began to read anything I could get my hands on when it came to training techniques and nutrition. Every week Dom would send me home with a new book for me to pour over and analyze with my critical mind… Then pepper Dominic with questions once I had finished.

At the time, Dom was the only employee of BTF and he was also expecting his first child. He needed help and asked if I had interest.  I explained I didn’t have any clue how to train anyone and wasn’t at all sure I was the right candidate for the job. Dom then countered that I was perfect for the job. I was easy to train, I was interested in learning, and because I wasn’t already a trainer,I didn’t have any bad habits he would have to break! I figured, what have I got to lose?

In the past 5 and a half years I’ve continued loving BTF and our clients. I’m definitely the loudest fan of the community we have built! I train hard while I’m there and do my best to motivate on days that you may not be feeling your best.”
