Sick Fish

If you have a fish tank and a fish appears to be sick, what’s the first step you take?

Do you give the fish medicine?

Or do you start by considering the condition of the tank?

Once you realize the tank is dirty, you’d most likely start by changing the environment.

Your environment consists of everywhere you spend your time - Home, work, gym, bunco night, book club at friends houses, church, parks, ball fields…

The food in your home wasn’t placed there by a stranger. If it’s in the house, you will eventually eat it.

Lunch is a big deal in the work environment. You can say no to when your coworkers order subs, chicken parm and all the other high calorie, high fat, high carb lunches that have you sleeping at your desk.

It’s easy to hit up the concession stand or pick up fast food when you are at a baseball tournament all weekend. You could also invest in a good cooler and take a little time to prepare food and healthy snacks.

Bunco, book club, golf outings…one night, one round of golf can upend an entire week of good habits.

Your gym/ training environment is not something you should take lightly. You are going to be spending 2-4 hours a week at this place. Not every gym or personal training facility will be a fit for you. Find a place that makes you feel comfortable.

Create new boundaries in your environments. This won’t be easy, but you can do it.

One less glass of wine/dessert at bunco, a couple less beers on the golf course, no more concession stand items at the ball field, brown bag your lunch most of the week.

Small things make big things happen.
